
(WWJ) A Canton man has been charged in the shooting death of his 8-year-old son last month.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said 33-year-old Nicholas A. Bennett was arraigned in 35th District County in Plymouth Friday morning on one count of involuntary manslaughter.
According to investigators, Bennett was "working on" his rifle at his home in the 41020 block of Old Michigan Ave., the afternoon of Dec. 15, 2020, with his young son with him in the room.
The weapon discharged, and the little boy was shot.
Canton Police officers were immediately called to the scene and the child was taken by EMS to a local hospital where he died. Bennett was taken into custody,
Bennett will be back in court for a Probable Cause Conference set for January 29, followed by a Preliminary Examination is scheduled for February 5, before Judge Michael Gerou.
