PONTIAC, Mich. (WWJ) -- A Commerce Township man is facing up to life in prison after being arraigned for what the prosecutor calls the “brutal, brutal murder” of his wife.

Authorities were called to the 4100 block of Chesapeake Circle in Commerce Township for a welfare check after 59-year-old Tatiana Vuichard didn’t show up to work on the morning of May 17.

When deputies entered the home, they found Vuichard on her bathroom floor with multiple lacerations to her neck and upper body.

Her husband, 63-year-old Vincent Vuichard, was allegedly at the home trying to cover it up when police arrived. He was arrested on-scene and taken into police custody.

Vuichard was charged on May 19 with one count of open murder, a felony punishable by up to life in prison. He was arraigned Monday morning in the 52-1 District Court in Novi.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald appeared at Monday’s arraignment, asking the court to deny bond.

“This was a brutal, brutal murder,” McDonald said. “More disturbing, [the defendant] was in the process of covering up and trying to get rid of his wife’s body and destroy evidence, when [the deputies] arrived… I ask the court to deny bond. [The defendant] is a danger, and this was a vicious murder.”

Bond was denied and Vuichard’s next court date was set for June 2.

After the arraignment, McDonald discussed the importance of services for women in abusive relationships.

“We have seen a disturbing rise in domestic violence during the pandemic,” McDonald said. “I am fighting for those victims, and I will hold their abusers accountable. I want victims to know that they are not alone, and there is help. HAVEN provides shelter, counseling, advocacy and educational programming to nearly 30,000 people each year. I encourage you to reach out.”
