COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after a Commerce Township woman was found dead in her bathroom after officers went to her home for a welfare check.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the home in the 4100 Chesapeake Circle on Monday after the woman did not report to work.

Deputies made contact with the 59-year-old victim’s husband and the wife was found on the home’s bathroom floor, “obviously deceased and the victim of foul play,” authorities said in a press release.

The woman’s 61-year-old was identified as a suspect and was taken into custody and transported to Oakland County Jail.

Police have not released any details about the cause of death or what may have led to the incident.

Authorities are still investigating the woman’s death, as detectives and the sheriff’s forensic lab were still at the scene, as of 2:45 p.m. Monday.

The names of the victim and suspect have not been released.
