(WWJ) – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has been seeing a rise in reported cougar sightings in recent years, despite saying there’s no native population of the big cat in the state.
While there have been numerous reports of cougars throughout Michigan, the DNR says not all of them are confirmed, though that number has been rising. The number of confirmed cougars spotted in the state hit double digits each of the last two years.
A viral video of a “strange” animal in Macomb County late last month had many people speculating it was a cougar. And that got WWJ’s Zach Clark wondering – why, despite not having a breeding population, reported cougar sightings are on the rise in Michigan. He gets answers in a new Daily J podcast.
