DETROIT (WWJ) -- A woman is in critical condition after crashing her mini bike into a car on Sunday afternoon.
Detroit police say it all unfolded around 3:45 p.m. in the area of Plymouth and Schaefer on the city’s west side when a 26-year-old woman was driving her 2012 mini bike.
Police say the woman’s motorized bike collided with a 2017 Toyota Prius.
First responders took the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Authorities say the 77-year-old driver of the Prius did not report any injuries during the crash.
It was not clear what led to the crash or if speed was a factor. Police did not say whether the woman was wearing a helmet while riding the bike.
In years past, Detroit police have warned residents about riding mini bikes, ATVs and other off-road vehicles on the city’s streets.
Police are still investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to call the Detroit Police Department’s Fatal Squad Unit at 313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
