BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) Divers have recovered the body of a woman who went missing on an Oakland County lake.
The tragic end to the search came Friday morning, on Island Lake — located on Long Lake Rd. between Franklin and Telegraph roads in Bloomfield Township.
Bloomfield Township Police Captain Mark Gallagher told WWJ Newsradio 950 that a 44-year-old West Bloomfield woman had been canoeing alone on the lake Thursday evening.
Shortly before 8 p.m., a friend became concerned when the woman did not return and called 911.
Although the canoe was recovered along the shoreline, the missing woman did not turn up during an initial search of the lake Thursday night.
After the search resumed in the morning, WWJ's Mike Campbell reported: "A drone identified the body in the water, and then the Oakland County Sheriff Dive Team came out and made the recovery."
The woman's name has not been released as the investigation continues.
