DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are turning to the public for help in identifying a suspect who shot a 2-year-old child and a bystander in Southwest Detroit earlier this month.

Detroit Police said shots rang out around 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2 in the 8800 block of Witt from the driver of a GMC Acadia.

The unknown suspect aimed at a gray 2011 Chevy Tahoe, police said, and a 2-year-old girl was struck by bullets as she was sitting in the back seat.

Earlier reports stated she was hit under the arm.

Police said a 55-year-old man working on his car nearby was also hit in the back when he heard the gunshots and came out to investigate.

Authorities said both victims were taken to the hospital, treated for their injuries and later released.

Police are now looking for tips in hopes of identifying the suspect and have released images of the vehicle that was used in the shooting.
