VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- The loved ones of the little boy who was hit and killed by a driver Tuesday morning in Van Buren Township need help.
The family is struggling to come up with the money to bury him and is raising money online to help with costs.
Police say 11-year-old Blake Smith, his 6-year-old sister and his mother, weren’t far from home when their car broke down in the road.
They all got out of the vehicle -- and that’s when a car hit the mother and sister, knocking the mother unconscious.
Blake then ran across Michigan Avenue near Denton Road to get help, and was hit by an on-coming truck. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators are calling the situation a terrible, tragic situation.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with the burial costs and other expenses.
