(WWJ) Michigan State Police and Detroit police have captured three teenagers wanted in a 3 day crime spree that allegedly involved murder, attempted murder and carjackings.
Troopers were patrolling a neighborhood near Eight Mile and the Southfield Freeway just after 10 p.m. Monday with Detroit Police Commercial Auto Theft and canine units and located a car that had been involved in several violent crimes, according to State Police.
When troopers tried to pull over the car, the driver sped away. A chase continued to the area of Hessel and Sunderland. Troopers tried to box in the car, and used a pit maneuver to spin out the vehicle as it was heading towards troopers. The driver then crashed into another State Police car head-on.
Three State Police vehicles were damaged.
One trooper was transported to a local hospital for treatment, as a precaution, and released.
Three suspects, two young men aged 18 and one 17, were taken into custody. They were wanted for their involvement in 5 armed carjackings, 3 non fatal shootings, and a recent homicide which occurred in the last 3 days, according to State Police. Two guns were found in the car.
State Police and Detroit Police are continuing to investigate. Charges are pending.
