At around 5 p.m., a 911 call came in from some people who reported an acquaintance of theirs was chasing them with a hatchet, according to a police report.

Responding officers made contact with the victims nearby who reported they had parked their car next to the suspect in the parking lot because they knew him from school. However, the suspect then used his vehicle to block them in and began running around their car brandishing a hatchet, the victims said.

The suspect struck the victims' rear passenger side window with the hatchet causing damage, police said, but no one in the car was injured.

The victims then fled the scene, waiting for police in a safe location.

After speaking with the victims, police found the suspect vehicle heading northbound on Crooks Road at Long Lake, and they pulled the driver over.

The man, who was placed in handcuffs, admitted to having a hatchet in the vehicle, police said.

However, he denied any wrongdoing.

The man told officers that he, in fact, had been threated by someone, that he was looking for that person, and that police had the wrong guy.

The driver was arrested and transported to Troy Police Lock-up. Along with felonious assault, he was also charged with malicious destruction of property. His name was not immediately released.

It's still unclear what prompted the attack.
