DUNDEE (WWJ) -- Parents have turned their kids in to the police after realizing their children were the ones responsible for the "Drano bomb" explosion earlier this week in Monroe County.

Dundee Police Acting Chief Randy Sehl said two juveniles are responsible for creating the homemade explosives that wreaked havoc at an apartment complex Tuesday night.

Investigators met with the adults and juveniles on Wednesday to discuss the incident that forced some people to evacuate their homes for off-site housing.

Police said both are cooperating and they will turn over a report to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office to determine if any criminal charges will be filed. It will then be forwarded to the Juvenile Division of the Monroe County Probate Court for further action.

The chemical explosion took place in a hallway at the Village Pointe Apartments at 611 Rawson St. in Dundee, and nobody was injured.

Dundee police and fire crews arrived on scene around 8:20 p.m., after residents of the complex reportedly discovered the explosive.

Upon evacuating the building, officials discovered a second device in the hallway. The device was removed and preserved for evidence by the Michigan State Police Bomb Disposal Unit and the Washtenaw County Fire HAZMAT Team.
