LIVONIA (WWJ) – Two men are hospitalized after shooting each other in Livonia on Tuesday afternoon.

Livonia police received a call shortly before 1 p.m. reporting witnesses had heard gunshots near the 9000 block of Perrin Street – near Livonia Franklin High School.

Witnesses told police they saw a man with a gun get in a car and drive away, hitting a parked car as he fled.

While the investigation is still ongoing, Livonia police officials said Tuesday evening they’ve learned two men who knew each other and had “been at odds for some time” shot each other during an altercation outside one of their homes on Perrin.

The nature of the dispute was not immediately clear.

Officials have not released the names or ages of either man, who were both taken to the hospital. Both men were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

It was not clear whether either man was arrested or whether charges will be forthcoming.

Administrators at Franklin High School sent a note to parents in the district on Tuesday afternoon notifying them of the incident, which was not related to the school.

“There was not a threat to student safety, but we wanted to make you aware that the incident involved a shooting within the neighborhood,” the letter said. “Livonia and Westland police responded immediately, and the suspect is in custody. There were reports from neighbors who heard the shots, so we wanted to make sure to inform everyone that our schools were not in danger and our afternoon is continuing as normal. “
