LANSING, Mich. (WWJ) – A rally in support of former President Donald Trump on the steps of the Michigan State Capitol on Saturday saw a low turnout, though supporters insisted there’s a “pro-Trump movement” happening in Michigan.

The event had been dubbed “The Honkening,” as a trucker convoy planned to drive through the streets of Lansing and honk their horns to "spread the message that the free people of Michigan will not be stopped."

There were about 125 people who attended the event, according to a report from The Detroit News. With temperatures in the low 30s and winds whipping across the state, weather conditions were less than ideal for an outdoor rally.

Low turnout and bad weather, however, didn’t deter speakers from sharing their message that Michigan voters need to be heavily involved in the 2022 midterm elections.

Among the speakers at Saturday’s event was Arizona Rep. Mark Finchem, a Michigan native. Finchem told the rally crowd Michigan lawmakers should be “fired” for not listening to claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election.

"If you want to put an end to what you're witnessing right now, you need to get schooled up. You need to support a candidate," Finchem said, according to The Detroit News.

Others to speak at Saturday’s rally included Trump-endorsed attorney general candidate Matt DePerno of Kalamazoo and state Senate hopeful Jonathan Lindsey of Coldwater.

Many attending the cold outdoor rally expected more people to attend a “MAGA Mixer” with the candidates indoors later that night.

Trump is expected to speak at a rally in Macomb County next weekend.
