DETROIT (WWJ) – Luck ran out for a Pontiac man wanted for murder when he was arrested at Motor City Casino in Detroit Sunday, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Frank Derron Short, wanted for the murder of Shedrick Knox, was walking around at the casino on Sunday when he was arrested by members of the OCSO’s Fugitive Apprehension Team and other sheriff’s detectives, according to police.

Short, 42, is accused of killing Knox, also a 42-year-old Pontiac man, while they were at Duckett’s, a bar in Pontiac, early Saturday morning.

The sheriff’s office says Knox was shot multiple times as he was leaving the bar and the two men apparently knew each other.

Bar employees told deputies there was a fight outside the bar and investigators said “it appeared as if two shooters were involved in a running gun battle in the parking lot,” as they found two sets of shell casings in two separate locations.

Knox ran inside the bar, where he collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“Once again our Fugitive Apprehension Team has taken a suspected murderer off the streets,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.

The sheriff’s office says Short is being held without bond at the Oakland County Jail on charges of open murder and possession of a firearm while in the commission of a felony. He’s set to appear in court on Dec. 16.

Short has a long history of drug offenses, dating back to 1998, according to the sheriff’s office.

Anyone with additional information about the shooting is asked to contact sheriff’s detectives at 248-409-7100.
