LINCOLN PARK (WWJ) -- A Downriver man is facing felony charges for a theft and assault that police say ultimately led to an officer-involved shooting.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said 30-year-old Alexander Scott Webster of Lincoln Park was arraigned in 25th District Court on Monday on two counts of felonious assault, in connection with the incident last Friday.

According to investigators, Webster was armed with a knife when he approached the 21-year-old victim at around midnight, along Marion Ave. between Oconnor Ave. and Russell Ave. in Lincoln Park

It alleged, prosecutors said, that Webster robbed the victim of his bicycle at knifepoint.

When the victim came back to try to get his bike back, prosecutors said Webster appeared and attempted to hit the victim with his car. The victim then pulled a handgun and shot at Webster's vehicle, but didn't hit him.

A short time later, Lincoln Park police officers responded to a home in the 1550 block of Marion to investigate the reported shooting.

It's alleged that Webster tried to hit the officers with his car before they opened fire, striking Webster.

He sped away from the scene, but was arrested a short time later and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Webster was remanded to jail following his July 17 court appearance. He will be back in court for a probable cause conference scheduled for July 25.
