DETROIT (WWJ) – A portion of the Lodge Freeway in Detroit has reopened a shooting that caused a crash Monday afternoon.
The southbound lanes of the Lodge were shut down at W. Grand Boulevard around 4 p.m. as police investigated. The freeway reopened around 5:20 p.m.
MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said in a video posted to Twitter a man was driving a Chevy Suburban in that area when someone opened fire. The victim was hit three times, then lost control of the SUV and slammed into the median wall under an overpass.
The victim, a 38-year-old man from Detroit, was taken to Henry Ford Hospital. He was believed to be in stable condition.
"Right now we're not exactly sure what brought this on or if this was a shooting between two parties," Shaw said, noting police are not yet sure of a motive.
Shaw said the victim was reluctant to give any information on the incident, but investigators are hoping he "becomes more cooperative" and can help them identify a suspect.
Officials say more details will be released as they become available.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting to call 1-800-MICH-TIP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
