EASTPOINTE (WWJ) -- A convicted killer and alleged gunman on the run for four days has been arrested for a deadly double shooting in Macomb County.
Dennis Carlton Evans, 60, was taken into custody in Texas where investigators found him hiding out in a family member's home, Eastpointe Police announced Wednesday.
Police said Evans is facing multiple felonies in connection with a shooting last week at 10 Mile Rd. and Gratiot in Eastpointe. In that incident, 37-year-old Dorian Raphael Mitchell of Eastpointe was killed, police said, and a 50-year-old woman was critically wounded.
Early in the morning of Jan. 27, officers responded to a shots fired complaint at an apartment complex on 10 Mile. A witness reported hearing several shots before police said Evans fled the scene in a black sedan.
"Our detectives worked countless hours investigating these violent acts and worked in conjunction with a number of local, state, and federal agencies," the Eastpointe PD said, in a statement. "As a result of their investigation, Dennis Carlton Evan was arrested without incident in San Antonio Texas."
Evans is charged with the following: First degree premediated murder, assault with intent to murder, delivery/manufacture of narcotics (50-449 grams), felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony.
A woman identified as a friend of Evans who allegedly aided the murder suspect was apprehended in Kansas and will also face charges, police said.
At this time, police said a motive for the double shooting is unknown as the investigation continues. The department added: "Our deepest condolences to the victim’s families."
Police said Evans previously served prison time for a murder conviction, but did not release any details.
