REDFORD (WWJ) -- A Michigan lawmaker is facing drunken driving charges again.

State Representative Mary Cavanagh, of Redford, was back in court Wednesday in Livonia to face drunken driving charges for the second time.

She was arrested in February in Livonia, when an officer saw her swerving around a highway with two flat tires, according to authorities.

Officials told WDIV that when she was pulled over and the officer spoke to her, she said, "I feel like I had some type of tire or something."

When asked for the second time where she was traveling from, Cavanagh said Lansing, according to the officer.

After sobriety and breath tests, she was taken to the Livonia Police Department jail without incident. Her car was impounded.

Her attorney, Todd Perkins, asked that the pretrial hearing be adjourned until he can gather more evidence. He said the decision on whether she will be going to trial or whether it will be some form of acceptance of responsibility has not come to the top of his mind yet.

Records show that Cavanagh was convicted on similar charges back in 2015, when she plead guilty to operating a vehicle while impaired. She served a year of probation.

Cavanagh also co-sponsored a bill that passed into law in 2021 which allows first-time drunk driving offenders to have their convictions expunged.
