DETROIT (WWJ) -- A man is in custody after driving around Detroit in a stolen Chrysler 300.

While Michigan State Police were on westbound I-96 Thursday at 11:40 p.m., they attempted to stop the white Chrysler for a traffic offense. But the driver fled, said officials.

The troopers ended up not pursuing the driver as he was observed traveling northbound on M-39.

Another trooper in the area was able to follow the car as it continued north and then exited the freeway at 8 Mile Road.

Authorities said the suspect was observed backing the car into a driveway on the 28000 block of Schaefer in Detroit.

A male was then observed getting out of the driver’s side and a female getting out of the passenger side. The two then entered the home.

When troopers arrived on scene, they surrounded the home and called for the suspects on a PA to come out of the house.

Officials said that both suspects came out of the home and were detained. The male suspect then gave consent to search the home.

The search located a car key fob programming tool and a firearm.

Further investigation revealed that the Chrysler 300 was stolen from Oak Park.

The male suspect was later lodged at the Detroit Detention Center pending charges. The female was released.
