DETROIT (WWJ) – A 21-year-old Detroit man is facing charges after he was arrested with a bottle of tequila between his legs and a stolen pistol on his hip during a traffic stop in Detroit.
Michigan State Police officials say it all unfolded shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday when a trooper spotted a silver Chrysler 300 speeding on southbound M-10, the John C. Lodge Freeway.
The trooper stopped the Chrysler near M-8, the Davison Freeway, and found four people inside.
When the trooper began talking with the driver, he noticed a bottle of tequila between his legs and asked him to step out of the car. That’s when he noticed a pistol on the driver’s hip.
Officials say the trooper quickly secured the gun and arrested the driver.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, pending charges, did not hold a valid CPL, according to MSP.
Police later discovered the gun had been stolen out of Clinton Township.
The driver was held at the Detroit Detention Center for concealed carry and possession of stolen property. The case is being reviewed by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and it was not clear if he will be facing any other charges.
It was not clear whether any of the passengers inside the car will be facing any charges.
