SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) – A 20-year-old Southfield man will face charges in connection with the murder of a young woman whose body was found along I-94 last Friday, Michigan State Police officials announced Thursday.

The suspect is set to be arraigned Friday morning after the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office authorized a two-count warrant.

MSP officials previously said on Wednesday two search warrants had been executed in Southfield as part of the investigation and the "suspect(s) were taken into custody."

One of two people arrested in the case was released, while the 20-year-old remained in jail Wednesday night, pending prosecutor review.

The suspect's name has not been released and authorities have not said what charges he will be facing.

The arrest stems from the murder of a 17-year-old Detroit girl, who was found shot to death on I-94 between 8 and 9 Mile Roads in St. Clair Shores on Oct. 15.

Police had been asking for tips and dash cam video from drivers who were in the area around 3:45 a.m. last Friday.

"If you have a dash cam on your vehicle or truck and were on the freeway at that time we are asking that you review any video for anything suspicious," MSP said on social media on Friday.

Troopers first began receiving 911 calls reporting a body on the freeway around 7:45 a.m. Friday. When police arrived on scene, they found the girl dead with a gunshot wound to her head on the eastbound side of the freeway.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone who knows something about the girl’s death has been urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP . All Crime Stoppers tipsters will remain 100% anonymous.
