LIVONIA (WWJ) -- A Michigan lawmaker has pleaded guilty to drunk driving charges this week and is hoping to be admitted into a sobriety program.

According to a Livonia police report, State Representative Mary Cavanaugh from Redford Township, was arrested during the early hours of Feb. 25 after driving with two flat tires and veering between lanes on I-96, near Merriman Road.

By the time she arrived at jail, the 30-year-old's blood alcohol content tested at 0.2%, which is more than double the legal limit of 0.08%.

This was Cavanagh's second time being arrested by Livonia police for drunken driving -- the first time was in 2015.

The Democratic Rep. pleaded guilty to operating while intoxicating and is facing up to 93 days in jail. She was convicted with operating a vehicle while impaired back in 2015, in which she served a year of probation for.

She is hoping to be put into a sobriety program.

Cavanagh co-sponsored a bill that passed into law in 2021, which allows first-time drunk driving offenders to have their convictions expunged.
