CLINTON TWP (WWJ) - Reports of a student in possession of a gun at Chippewa Valley High School temporarily sent students and staff into lockdown status on Friday as police conducted an investigation.
According to school officials, the student with the weapon was first reported by another student and a parent the morning of April 1. Chippewa Valley Schools Superintendent Ron Roberts released a statement to parents confirming the reports; he said authorities were called out and the school was placed on lockdown out of caution.
The student was taken into police custody and a gun was recovered; authorities said no students or staff was harmed.
"Keeping our students and staff safe is a community-wide effort," Roberts had wrote. "Parents, please remember to talk to your child about your expectations for behavior at home and at school. Remind them of the school policies that prohibit weapons on school premises and the serious consequences they will face if they violate those rules."
At this time, it is unknown if the student will face charges and information about the incident remains limited.
Police said to Channel 4 that the school had a half day of class already scheduled for Friday; the students were released on time.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
