MISSING: Teen sisters had permission to visit friend in Detroit on NYE, but didn't return home

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police officials say two teenage sisters who went missing over New Year's weekend are now home safe.

According in investigators, Kylayonia Hendrix and her sister Viola Hendrix were given permission to go to their friend’s house on Dec. 31, 2022 — New Year's Eve — and were last seen at around 2 p.m. that day in the 14500 block of Lauder, on Detroit's west side.

The sisters were supposed to return home on Monday, Jan. 2, but they never showed up, police said.

Authorities announced Tuesday, Kylayonia, 14, and Viola, 15, are home safe. Officials did not say where they were found.

Further circumstances surrounding the girls' disappearance are still unknown.
