(WWJ) A Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect for Novi and Walled Lake until mid-week as a result of a break in a 48-inch water transmission line, while crews are making progress with repairs.

An update from the Great Lakes Water Authority on Sunday evening said water pressures in Novi and Walled Lake are near normal levels, however the boil water advisory will remain in effect until two rounds of water quality testing are completed and come back clear.

With pressures now stabilized, flushing and sampling activities that are required to lift the boil water advisory have begun, according to a statement from the Authority. The current target for lifting the boil water advisories in Novi and Walled Lake is mid-week

Emergency contractors and GLWA crews removed a 20 foot section of the damaged pipe on Sunday and are preparing to install a new steel pipe on Monday.

The line ruptured early Saturday morning along 14 Mile Road between Farmington and Drake roads.  Several cars and trucks were stranded in the water, however no injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Detroit Water & Sewerage Department is working to repair a water main break that was reported Saturday evening on Jefferson Avenue near Burns Street. The break is on a 42-inch concrete water transmission main.

No boil water advisory has been issued at this time.  A statement from the city said due to the redundancy in the water system, all residents in the area should have water service. If any residents in the area do not have water service, please call DWSD at 313-267-8000.

“Our crews responded quickly and are actively working to assess the break and make repairs as safely and efficiently as possible,” said Deputy Director Sam Smalley. “We appreciate residents’ patience as we work to make the area safe, repair the break, and open Jefferson back to normal operations as soon as possible.”

Repairs were taking place Sunday and will take several days to complete.
