BATTLE CREEK (WWJ) -- Two people in Southwest Michigan have been charged with moving a young woman's body outside after she allegedly overdosed at a social gathering.

The deceased, identified only as a 24-year old woman from Paw Paw, was discovered late Wednesday morning after passersby saw her body in some brush, at the edge of a wooded area north of the Battle Creek River.

Battle Creek police initially investigated the incident as a murder before determining that the young woman likely died as the result of a drug overdose.

They are still waiting on a forensic evidence analysis to confirm the official cause-of-death.

Detectives now allege that the victim was with several others at an apartment on the northeast side of Battle Creek, where she likely overdosed. Officials believe her companions panicked when they realized she had died and moved her body outside at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police have notified some of the woman's family members and say they will identify her publicly at a later date.
