WARREN (WWJ) – A case of road rage on Wednesday ended with two family members in custody.
A 36-year-old Warren woman and a 30-year-old Woodhaven woman were both arrested after the incident, which unfolded shortly before 2 p.m. in Warren on Wednesday.
Police got a call at 1:53 p.m. reporting a road rage incident and shots fired in the area of 10 Mile and Schoenherr Roads. A woman driving a Jaguar told police she was being followed by another woman in a Jeep.
She told police that woman had fired shots at her during the incident.
Officers spotted the Jaguar in the area of Toepfer and Schoenherr and tried to pull her over, but a short police chase ensued. She eventually stopped near Schoenherr and Bringard, in Detroit.
When officers went to take her into custody, the driver of the Jeep pulled up, got out and began to assault the driver of the Jaguar and the arresting officers, according to Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer.
Both women were eventually arrested.
Authorities say the preliminary investigation revealed no shots had actually been fired during the incident.
Independent witnesses said they saw the driver of the Jaguar throw something at the Jeep during the road rage incident. Investigators also learned the two women were related to each other, but did not specify how.
The driver of the Jeep sustained a minor injury during the incident, according to Warren police.
Detectives are still investigating the case, which will be presented to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office to review for any possible charges.
