There has only been one wolverine sighting in Michigan in the last 200 years — So what makes us "The Wolverine State"?

(WWJ) – Here in Michigan, our state has several nicknames – The Great Lakes State, The Mitten, The Water-Winter Wonderland, and of course, The Wolverine State.

The first three are pretty self-explanatory. But aside from various fur trading accounts from the 1700s, there’s only been one confirmed wolverine sighting in the last 200 years.
