Woman killed when car goes up in flames in Dearborn crash

DEARBORN (WWJ) -- Police are investigating a single-vehicle car crash that happened late Monday night -- leaving one woman dead.

A 44-year-old woman was driving a car that crashed into a light pole and then caught on fire around 11:30 p.m. in the area of 500 Town Center Dr., according to Dearborn Police.

Authorities said the woman was trapped in the car and died from her injuries.

The woman's name hasn't been released.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police said it doesn't appear that foul play, speeding or alcohol were factors.

“The Dearborn Police Department offers its sincere condolences to the victim’s family," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad. "This is a terrible tragedy."
