BRIGHTON (WWJ) -- A young student could be facing serious charges after calling in a fake school threat last week.

According to Michigan State Police, Maltby Intermediate School and Hornung Elementary School were placed on lockdown on Friday, Jan. 28 after authorities received a report about a man walking toward the schools with a gun.

MSP troopers then conducted a sweep of the campus that last for several hours before eventually determining there was no threat, and releasing the students home to their parents.

It was discovered that the call was made by a 10-year-old student who had been suspended earlier that same day for bringing a knife to school.

Police say they are working with the Oakland County Prosector’s Office and looking to authorize False Report or Threat of Terrorism Charges against the child.
