'No threat': MSP investigating after false report of person carrying a firearm at Brighton school

GENOA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) - Troopers from the Brighton Post said they're investigating a false report of an individual carrying a firearm at Maltby Intermediate School and Hornung Elementary School in Brighton.

Officials stressed there is no threat to either school or to the community and the lockdown initiated earlier has been lifted.

Police offered no further information other than the investigation is ongoing.

Police presence was first noted a little after 3 p.m. on Bauer Rd. in Livingston County after the Maltby Intermediate School entered a lockdown this afternoon.

Area police and school officials did not comment on the situation, but did confirm the school was on lockdown status.

Maltby Intermediate School teaches fifth and sixth grade students.
