LSU's record-setting 2023 MLB draft continued early and often on Tuesday, with seven more Tigers picked on the final day of the MLB draft.
Those picks increase the total number of Tigers selections to 13, the most in any draft, though a handful of those players could opt to return to school in hopes of increasing their positioning for next year. The previous record was 10 in the 2013 draft.
The Day 3 picks include:
- P Garrett Edwards: Rays, Round 11, No. 333 overall
- P Blake Money: Orioles, Round 12, No. 361 overall
- OF Brayden Jobert: Cardinals, Round 12, No. 365 overall
- P Riley Cooper: Orioles, Round 13, No. 391 overall
- SS Jordan Thompson: Dodgers, Round 15, No. 460 overall
- P Javen Coleman: Dodgers, Round 16, No. 490 overall
- P Christian Little: Mets, Round 19, No. 576 overall
Edwards will rejoin teammate Tre' Morgan who was also selected by the Rays at No. 88 overall. Paul Skenes (Pirates) and Dylan Crews (Nationals) made history as the first pair of teammates to ever go 1-2 in an MLB draft. Ty Floyd went the Reds at No. 38, and also made history for the first time LSU had ever had three picks prior to the second round.
Grant Taylor, who missed the season with an elbow injury, was picked by the White Sox in the 2nd round (No. 102), while Gavin Dugas was picked by the Nationals in the 6th round (No. 165).
That record number could have been even higher if not for a handful of players who were a bit of a surprise by not going off the board in the 20-round draft. That group includes CWS heroes Cade Beloso, Alex Milazzo and Nate Ackenhausen.
The results put a bow on a magical season for the Tigers, which featured a majestic run through the NCAA Tournament and the 7th College World Series title in program history. Jay Johnson also became the second LSU coach in a matter of months to win a national title in their second year with the school, joining Kim Mulkey and women's basketball team.
