LSU football's opening showdown with UCLA is still on track to have full capacity at the Rose Bowl on Sept. 4, but anyone in attendance will be required to wear masks under newly instated L.A. County regulations.
The rules, which go into effect Thursday, mandate mask wearing for any outdoor event that draws more than 10,000, regardless of vaccination status, according to a report from the L.A. Times.
Regulations have been put into place to help stem the tide of COVID, most notably the Delta Variant that has surged in recent months.
The state of California has "strongly urged" organizers of large events to screen attendees for vaccine status, but has not implemented and hard-and-fast rules to that end. Similar rules have been put in place in New Orleans, where fans attending Saints games must also verify they've been vaccinated or show a negative test taken within the prior 72 hours to gain access on gameday.
