After news broke that LSU quarterback Myles Brennan suffered a severe arm injury that required surgery, one of the first people to reach out was a Super Bowl champion.
That was Brad Johnson, the father of LSU quarterback Max Johnson. His son had just been announced as the Tigers' starter due to the injury, but he wanted to check in on the Brennan family.
"You feel for Myles. You feel for the Brennan family," Brad Johnson said Wednesday on SportsTalk with Bobby Hebert, Kristian Garic and Mike Detillier.
Earlier on the show Owen Brennan, the father of Myles, revealed that the injury occurred as his son was preparing for one last fishing trip before reporting to campus. He was carrying his gear when his flip flop got caught in a dock and he fell, unable to use his arms to brace himself. He initially thought it was a bruise, but later discovered he had a compound fracture of his humerus bone that required surgery, with a metal plate and screws inserted.
"But his show won’t stop," Johnson continued. "Somehow he’ll recover from this. He’ll come back and give it another shot, I’m sure."

ON BUILDING RELATIONSHIP WITH ED ORGERON
“It’s crazy, it’s like. I’m a dad, I’m sitting here saying two things. You’re gonna say ‘don’t go to the SEC team’ because you grew up here in Georgia country, and ‘don’t go to a defensive head coach.’ You know what I mean? But we went to camp there a bunch and I think we made a great relationship with Coach O over time. And where he’s headed as far as how he wanted to change the program, how they changed the recruiting.
"Obviously they won a national championship two years ago. You can see the greatness of that team and the greatness of players wanting to be there. So last year was a weird year with just — you could do 10 podcasts on that one. But it really was, they have the makings of being a champion every year. Playing in the SEC, playing the best football brand that there is in the country. It’s obvious. So Max wanted to blaze his own path, not just follow his dad, in his footsteps, or anything like that. He loves it at LSU. Loves the teammates, the coaches.
ON POTENTIAL SEC EXPANSION
“Wow. I mean. I have no clue about that one. It shocked me a little bit with Oklahoma and Texas, but I mean hell if you’re going 20 teams, you could see 24. Just split them up into four six-team divisions. I mean, who knows where this whole thing is going with the BCS and with the SEC. it’s a powerhouse conference. There’s no doubt about that one. The best players in the country as a whole. Usually one of those teams is playing for the national championship. …
"It’s interesting times right now with conference play and where it’s headed. Your guess is as good as mine on this one.”
