Yes, Saints quarterback Jameis Winston got blown up by gauntlet machine earlier this week at training camp practice, but there's something you don't know.
"Jeff, the first time I went through that gauntlet, I blew it up," Winston said, responding to a question by NOLA.com's Jeff Duncan.
The video, first shared off the NFL Network's feed from practice, went viral. They didn't show the first time when he "blew it up," Winston said. Still, he points to next-level ball security.
"Yea, I know, they don't show you that. But the first time I blew it up. The second time, I got hit pretty good," Winston said. "But I kept my ground. I stayed up, you saw that ball. Did you see the ball? The ball was secure. So I finished in the endzone."
Winston spoke after Friday's training camp practice as the quarterback continues to battle Taysom Hill for the starting job. The Saints' first preseason game is a little over a week away, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 14 against the Baltimore Ravens.
"Like I said, we're gonna be resilient. Leave me alone, Jeff. Still standing, baby," Winston said. "I did get hit sticked, though."
