With a potential hurricane on tap for the weekend, which would be named Ida, the New Orleans Saints are weighing options for their third and final preseason game.
The Saints are currently set to host the Arizona Cardinals at 7 p.m. Saturday, ahead of the projected arrival of the storm but still within the window of time that'd be used to prepare if it makes landfall as projected in Louisiana.
"We are monitoring Tropical Storm Ida and will have more definitive information [Friday] morning from which we can make the safest decisions possible," the Saints announced Thursday afternoon, adding that they've been in contact with city, homeland security and weather officials.
Coach Sean Payton hadn't yet been briefed on the potential impacts of the storm when asked after practice Thursday, but said he's confident the team will handle it effectively.
"We’ve dealt with that before. We do a good job of that. It’s that time of the year," Payton said. "Obviously, we’ll monitor it."
