A team effort helped save people and extinguish a blaze on a boat in Slidell Sunday night.

"When a 45’ cabin boat went up in flames on Lake Pontchartrain near Eden Isles last night, our Marine Division was on it," the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office posted.

Authorities say a good Samaritan was the first on the scene.

"A boater that was nearby swooped in and got everyone off safely...no injuries, no time wasted."

The sheriff's office says deputies worked with the fire department.

"We transported firefighters from St. Tammany Fire District #1, got them on scene fast, and together we hit that fire head-on using portable pumps from our STPSO boat."
