In a late afternoon press release today, the New Orleans Police Department expressed a sincere thanks to the New Orleans City Council for restoring the department's ability to use face recognition:
"We thank the City Council for working diligently to pass an amended technology ordinance that allows NOPD to use tools that many law enforcement agencies around the country are using.
We promise the citizens of this city that this technology will be used in a manner consistent with the Constitutional policing practices we have worked so hard to implement and are now what we are as a department."
