
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- FDNY discovered a 50-year-old male inside lying inside an apartment in the Elmhurst section of Queens after responding to a 911 call of a fire at approximately 2:59 a.m. on Monday.
Firefighters found George Ortega at a fifth floor apartment at 88-35 Elmhurst Avenue.
He was then transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
EMS also found a 30-year-old male and a 36-year-old woman who were both taken to the hospital.
The male remains in critical condition, and the woman is in stable condition.
All three victims resided in apartment 5L, and all sustained smoke inhalation.
According to FDNY Deputy Chief Mark Ferran, the building did not have working smoke detectors.The Fire Marshall will determine the cause of the fire.
The investigation remains ongoing.
