MASTIC BEACH, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – One person was killed and two more are fighting for their lives after a fiery car crash on Long Island trapped them inside a vehicle Friday morning, police said.
The driver of the vehicle was speeding when it slammed into a tree on Pine Road in Mastic Beach shortly before 9 a.m., according to ABC7.
The vehicle erupted in flames, and three people became trapped, ABC7 reported.
Although a neighbor was able to extinguish some of the fire with a garden hose and help rescue the three people, one of them was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the two others were hospitalized in critical condition.
ABC7 reports that there may have been a fourth person who fled the crash scene.
