100 anti-ICE protesters arrested after shutting down part of West Side Highway

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A rally against Immigration and Customs Enforcement had hundreds of protesters taking to the streets of Manhattan on Saturday—and dozens of them were arrested when they sat on the busy West Side Highway and blocked traffic.

The NYPD says 100 people were arrested for disorderly conduct at the protest.

Protesters were spotted sitting near 12th Avenue and 26th Street in Chelsea around 1:30 p.m., Citizen App video shows.

They were chanting "abolish ICE" and "ICE lurks here."

They held signs that said "close the camps" and "ICE hides here."

The NYPD told 1010 WINS that it is aware of the protest but didn't give an exact number of arrests.

Video on social media shows police ordering the protesters to get out of the West Side Highway.

"You are unlawfully in the roadway and obstructing vehicular traffic," an NYPD command speaker says in the video.

The protest was said to be peaceful and there are no reports of injuries.
