NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A gunman shot two men in front of a daycare in the Bronx on Monday afternoon, the NYPD said.

A 26-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were standing in front of Sister Sister Colorful Day Care, on Walton Avenue near Burnside Avenue in Fordham Heights, around 3 p.m. on Monday when a gunman walked up and shot at them, police said.

The 27-year-old man was hit once in the chest, and the 28-year-old man was hit once in the arm and once in the leg, the NYPD said. Both men were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and were expected to survive, police said.

The gunman fled the scene on foot and hadn't been arrested as of Monday evening, the NYPD said. The daycare's owner told the New York Post that everyone inside the facility was "safe."

"The workers were there," she said. "They said everything was fine."
