
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Two retired firefighters died on Friday from 9/11-related illnesses, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Officials say 63-year-old Richard Jones, served in the FDNY on the Upper West Side at Ladder 25 for 20 years.
He received three acts of merit in 1992 and 1997.
Lieutenant Paul Deo, 74, of Engine Company 317 served for 33 years.
"Nearly two decades later, our FDNY family continues to lose remarkable men and women who never wavered in their commitment to protecting life and property in our city," FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said in a statement. "Our department will never forget them or the bravery they exuded throughout their careers."
Both Jones and Deo returned in 2002.
343 firefighters were killed at Ground Zero on Sept. 11, 2001and as of July 2019, the FDNY lost its 200th member to a 9/11-related illness.
