NEW YORK( 1010 WINS) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Monday that the number of new cases of coronavirus and the number of patients in hospitals both declined.
Hospitalizations and new cases are both down, despite these promising indicators, he said he is not seeing the "fast decline" he had hoped for.
Cuomo reported 226 additional deaths during his daily briefing, the lowest single-day number in over a month as the statewide death toll reaches 19,415.
The governor also said that reopening is more difficult than closing. "You have to be more careful," he said. "Let's be smart about what we do."
The gov. gave a break down on how the state will gradually begin to reopen.
- Phase 1: Construction, manufacturing and wholesale supply chain as well as select retail and curbside pickup
- Phase 2: Professional services including finance and insurance, retail, administrative, real estate and rental leasing
- Phase 3: Restaurant and food services and hotels and accommodations
- Phase 4: Arts, entertainment and recreation and education
Businesses must "reimagine " their operations to be safe in compliance with new standards, Cuomo said.
