NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Forty outdoor dining corridors in New York City will be allowed to operate on weekdays soon, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday.
The city is expanding its “Open Streets: Restaurants” program to weekdays at 40 locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens, the mayor’s office said in a release.
The program currently allows car-free outdoor dining on certain streets on Friday nights and weekends. The following 40 locations will soon be adding weekday hours, according to the release:
The 40 corridors will be allowed to start operating on weekdays as early as Thursday, Sept. 17, the release said.
“Restaurants deserve every chance they can get to serve more customers this fall — and, as the weather gets cooler, New Yorkers deserve every chance they can get to enjoy outdoor dining,” de Blasio said in a statement. “The Open Streets: Restaurants program has been a success, and we’re proud to grow its reach and give restaurants more tools to make it through this crisis."
