NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A suspect has been taken into custody in the mysterious death of a 64-year-old antiques dealer who was found dead in his Upper East Side apartment.
The NYPD said Friday that they had a person in custody in connection with the death of Kenneth Savinski Wednesday.
Alex Ray Scott, a 24-year-old from Tulsa, Oklahoma, was charged with murder, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, the NYPD said.
Scott has a criminal record—he was charged in 2018 with molesting a five-year-old child. Records show he was arrested in New York and extradited to Tulsa.
The relationship between him and Savinski, if any, is unclear.
Scott turned himself in to police on Friday, implicating himself, according to sources.
Authorities responded to a building on East 83rd Street Wednesday evening and found Savinski in the living room, lying face down and unconscious with a wound to his head.
A report from CBS 2 says a friend went to check on the the victim after he hadn’t heard from him in a while and discovered the man lying in a pool of blood on his living room floor.
The report adds that at first, investigators believed the man hurt his head after a fall but there was nothing in his vicinity that would cause the wound.
EMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
Police have deemed the incident a homicide after signs of foul play were found.
The Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
Neighbors describe Savinski as a nice man.
An investigation remains ongoing.
