NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD on Tuesday said eight percent of its uniformed workforce was out sick, down from a nearly 20 percent peak earlier this month.
A total of 2,891 uniformed NYPD members were out sick as of Tuesday evening, according to the NYPD. The department saw its peak of illnesses on April 9, when 7,155 uniformed members — or 19.8 percent of its uniformed workforce — were out sick.
Thirty-seven NYPD members have died since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and a total of 4,895 members have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the NYPD said Tuesday.
Of those members who have tested positive, 3,772 have returned to work "full duty after recovering," the department noted.
The NYPD has been checking the temperatures of anyone who enters a department facility out of an abundance of caution.
