NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An 800-pound shark dubbed Miss May may be visiting the Jersey shore in time for the July 4 holiday.

An ocean research group says a GPS locator attached to Miss May shows she has been about 10 miles off the coast of Cape May but moving north off Wildwood and Stone Harbor beaches.

Miss May was tagged on Feb. 15 near Fernandina Beach, Florida and has traveled more than 2,700 miles since.

OCEARCH, the group which tagged Miss May, has been tagging and monitoring sharks for over a decade.

Another shark tagged by the group, Mary Lee, saw its last ping near the Jersey shore in 2017.
