NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A leading expert on Jimmy Hoffa says fresh evidence could solve the mystery of the 1975 disappearance of the Teamsters boss.
Author Dan Moldea says an old New Jersey landfill dubbed "Brother Moscato's Dump" may contain Hoffa's grave.
Moldea says the lead comes from Frank Coppola, whose father Paul was a partner in the dump when Hoffa disappeared in Michigan decades ago.
The PJP Landfill was on the east bank of the Hackensack River in Jersey City. It has since been transformed into a wildlife preserve, but Moldea says he believes Hoffa's body could still be on private land at the location.
Coppola says that as his father was dying in 2008, he revealed what happened so Hoffa's family could eventually recover his remains.
"I've never seen a lead this good for Hoffa's body," Moldea told the Detroit Free Press. "I've been on six of these (digs) myself, and I've come away from all of them disappointed. But nothing was even in the same universe as this."
The FBI told the Detroit Free Press it wasn't aware of Coppola's account but would be willing to search if credible information leads to a location.
"The case has been going on for so long, and there's so much interest in finding Mr. Hoffa. We would very much like to be able to solve this," an FBI spokeswoman said.
