NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Rehearsals for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade are set to begin Monday at 7:30 p.m., and will be attended by Broadway stars, celebrities and large performance groups. However, some major guests may be missing on the real day.

Strong winds predicted for Thursday's forecast could potentially bring gusts over 40 mph and ground all 16 giant balloons.

According to city regulations the balloons cannot be flown if sustained winds exceed 23 mph and gusts exceed 34 mph.

Four people were injured after a Cat in the Hat balloon was overtaken by strong winds and pushed into a lamppost during the 1997 parade.

Falling debris struck a parade-goer and left her in a coma for a month.

The following year, size rules were subsequently implemented in 1998, banning larger balloons and city officials instituted new regulations for grounding the giant balloons.Like 1010 WINS on Facebook and follow @1010WINS on Twitter to get breaking news, traffic, and weather for New York City.
